Blwyddyn Newydd Dda / Happy New Year
Croeso nol, welcome back to the spring term. We hope you have all had a lovely Christmas break and enjoyed spending some quality time with your families.
We will begin this term by learning at home and have shared some suggested activities for you to complete this week.
All we ask is that you do what you can, when you can. There is no expectation to upload photos of everything you do at home, just one or two pictures to show an example of a skill they have been practising or something they have completed or achieved.
Suggested Activities:
RWI: This term, we will be starting to learn the first letter sounds in Read, Write, Inc. This is the main phonics programme that we follow in the Foundation Phase. The first three sounds we will be learning are:
m a s
Ruth Miskin, the creator of RWI will be sharing free sound sessions on her YouTube channel from Tuesday 5th January. They will be shared from 9.30am each morning and will be available for 24 hours. Each film is approximately 10-15 minutes long. Please choose 'Speed Sounds Set 1', which will introduce your child to one of the sounds above each day.
After watching the speed sounds video, can you practise to write the new sound using the memorable phrases we use in RWI? You can practise in lots of different ways e.g. using shaving foam, paint, chalk, a wipe on wipe off board and pen, different colour crayons/pencils etc.
m - down Maisie, mountain, mountain
a - round the apple, down the leaf
s - slither down the snake
CHRISTMAS NEWS: We would love to hear all about your Christmas news. Can you draw or paint a picture to show us what you did? You could draw a picture of your favourite present.
WINTER
Did you see any snow over Christmas? Winter is definitely here! This week can you become a winter detective? What do you know about the winter?
Read and talk about the story 'Stick Man'. If you don't have a copy, click on the video link below.
Stick man travels through all four seasons, can you find winter? How do you know it is winter? Go back and look at the trees, what happens to them through the story?
Wrap up warm and go for a winter walk. Talk about what you can see? With some help from a grown up, can you take a winter photo?
There is a winter hunt 'checklist' shared in our class file on HWB that you could use to tick off along the way.
Click on the link below to practise your maths skills by playing the number snowmen games on Top Marks:

Can you make a bird feeder to help feed the birds through the winter? All you need is a pipe cleaner and some Cheerios (or other hoop shaped cereal).
Can you count the hoops as you thread them on to the pipe cleaner? Can you bend your feeder to make different shapes?
Find a good spot in the garden to hang them out for the birds.
