This week, we are going to continue our Welsh theme following on from Dydd Santes Dwynwen, by looking more closely at CASTLES.
We have lots of fantastic castles in Wales. Do you know the names of any Welsh castles? Have you ever been to a castle? If you haven't, when things start to open again, maybe you could visit one? Ask a grown up to help you look at some pictures of Welsh castles on the Internet. Talk about some of the parts of the castle and what they were used for e.g. the drawbridge, the moat, the tower.
Which one is your favourite castle? Can you draw or paint a picture of it?

RWI Phonics
Over the past few weeks, we have introduced you to some of the first letter sounds that we learn in Read, Write, Inc. If you have been following the RWI sessions on the Ruth Miskin YouTube channel and your child is confident with the sounds introduced so far, please continue to access the next set of sounds this week.
We will be going back to practise and look at these sounds and will focus on one sound each week. Our sound of the week for this week is:

Can you find some things that start with this sound? Parents - Choose two objects. One that starts with 'm' and one that doesn't. Can they identify the object that starts with 'm'? If they can, try adding another object. Or maybe find the odd one out with lots of 'm' objects. You could even play hide and seek to find the 'm' objects. Have a look at the front covers of your storybooks. Can you find the letter 'm'?
Writing
This week, we'd like you to practise to write your name. There are lots of fun ways to practise, here are some of our favourites:

Go on a shape hunt around your house. Can you find...
a circle, a square, a triangle, a rectangle?
Can you sort the shapes? Put all the circles in a pile etc. Can you put the shapes in a line and count them? Which shape do you have the most of?

Can you make a 2D shape using lolly sticks or straws? Can you make a picture with them?
Shape games
Have a look in your toy boxes. Do you have any 2D shape games or jigsaws in the house you can play to help you practise the names of the shapes?

Let's get creative!
If you made a castle last week, can you find a different way to make one? You could use some Duplo or building blocks, some recycled materials such as cardboard boxes and kitchen roll tubes or playdough.
Can you make a crown to wear or a shield to protect you in your castle?

Dough Disco
Join Shonette in the dough disco. You will need a small ball of playdough for this activity. If you don't have any, there are lots of simple homemade dough recipes availabe online.
Well-Being Phone Calls
On Wednesday, Mrs.Vowles will be giving you a quick call. This will be a 5-10 minute call just to 'check in' and see how you are all getting on at home. If your child would like to say hello, she would love to speak to them but they don't have to if they don't want to.
