Wythnos 4

Bore da,

I hope you enjoyed last week. The weather was lovely, so I hope you enjoyed time outside too.

Some of you have been really busy and have uploaded lots of fantastic activities for me to look at, so a big thank you to you all.

Maths - This week we will continue working with money, as well as focusing on mark making and counting.

  • Role play with money, maybe use the idea of a café or restaurant instead. The children could write down your order and you can exchange money for items.
  • Even an outdoor coffee shop with sand, water, soap suds etc...

  • Continue role playing with a shop, maybe a toy shop or gardening shop. Again children can write  down orders or receipts.
  • Introduce 1st, 2nd and 3rd through play and during your day.
  • Continue practicing counting, writing and familiarity with numbers 1 to 10.
  • Recap on floating and sinking.
  • Create challenges using plastic cups and jugs - how many cups will it take to fill a jug, encourage mathematical language - counting, bigger, smaller, full and empty.

Here are some number songs the children should be familiar with:

Sounds/Letters - Daily practice with their sounds is essential, so keep using their home learning packs as well as the sound session with Ruth Miskin on YouTube.
  • Writing tray - children can practice letters without pencils - use foam, soap, flour, piece of sandpaper, paint, sugar - sensory materials.
  • Fish for letters - place cut out fish with letters/sounds on and place in an old box - attach a paperclip to each fish - create a rod with a small magnet on and fish for the sounds - alternatively adapt game to what materials you have available.

  • Dough disco is a fun activity which combines the use of play dough with a series of hand and finger exercises designed to improve fine muscle control. The movements develop children's fine and gross motor dexterity, hand-eye coordination and the children absolutely love them!
Here's just one example for you to have a go at:

If you don't have any dough at home, then you can follow this recipe:

Topic - As I suggested for role play, a café or restaurant scenario would be a great way to cover lots of skills required in Nursery. Making a list, is one of them. So when the children take an order, encourage them to make their own marks and let them 'talk' about their own writing. If you feel they are ready to, then encourage them to try and find/write/copy the initial sound for each word on the list.

An activity linked to Supertato would be to 'list' the fruit and vegetables (using my advice above) mentioned in the story.

They could also ask family members what their favourite fruits are and list them too. Then using their Hwb:

The children can create a pictogram with this information.

Click on the 'pictogram' tab along the top. There is a pre-made fruit one that you can use or you can create your own by adding pictures.

Welsh - The children could have a look at the weather news and tell you in welsh what the weather is. They could even do a simple weather chart and record the weather daily.

Sut mae'r tywydd heddiw?  What is the weather like today?
Mae hi'n heulog - It is sunny
Mae hi'n bwrw glaw - It is raining
Mae hi'n gymylog - It is cloudy
Mae hi'n wyntog - It is windy
Mae hi'n braf - It is fine
Mae hi'n oer - It is cold
Mae hi'n bwrw eira - It is snowing
Mae hi'n stormus - It is stormy
Mae hi'n niwlog - It is foggy

These are lovely songs for the children and other family members to listen to and join in:

Getting Active - There have been lots of ideas on previous blogs for you all to do as family or just the children. You can do your favourie ones or mix them up every day. Lets not forget that gardening is great exercise too and I would love to see any pictures of vegetables that you have planted.

Here are some more dancing/ action songs for staying active:

Daily Mindful Challenge -

I wonder if you could try and include this breathing activity in your daily routine? I will give you a different one to do each week. The children can do it at a quiet time during the day and even teach other family members it too.

Have a great week!
Don't forget I will be contacting you this week with regards to the well being of your child, remembering my telephone number will be withheld. I look forward to catching up with you.
Stay safe and happy.

Mrs. Boat
