You have more than likely already seen the red books that I have sent home with the children, in their library bags. (Pre-Nursery children have had a poly pocket with some activities instead, but please feel free to particpate in any activities that are posted on here, if you so wish).
The books will be used as the home learning logs whilst the school is closed and contain a variety of different activities for you to work through, with your child/children. Please don't feel you have to do them all at once, they are to be worked through at a pace suited to both you and your child's pace/available time. Please could the children complete any activities in pencil, as this is what we use in school, to maintain the excellent standard of work that they usually produce.
With younger children it is important that any misconceptions your child may have when completing an activity is discussed there and then. So please don't just ask your child to complete the work and move on to the next activity.
The adult sitting with them needs to check the work that they have completed. (In school the children love checking work with the adult and getting praised for doing things right). So please continue to praise, praise, praise! As long as your child has sat, concentrated and tried their best, that is all we can ask for. It is a different way of learning for them and they will want to show you how clever they are, just like they love showing us in school.

What is in the book?
There is a letter in each book with some information about your home learning journey and a task for the children to cover their books to represent themselves.

I have also attached a learning sounds chart at the beginning of each book, if the children can read/recognise these sounds on 3 different occasions/days, they can colour them in as a record of the sounds they have learned.
Numeracy activities:
1. A number line - the numbers to accompany this are in the poly pocket provided. Please encourage your children to cut the numbers out and order them onto the number line correctly.
2. Numbers 1-10 - This is for number games. There are a set of cut up matching numbers also in the poly pocket. The children can match the flashcards to the number mat in their books, or you can play Bingo using the flashcards to call out.
Language activities:
1. Name practise/recognition - The name mats have instructions on them for the children to practise recognising and writing their own names.
2. Letter sounds/CVC words - Some children have letter sound flashcards in the poly pockets to use however you wish. They can be used as flashcards, matching cards or within a hunt for children to practise learning their sounds. Other children have CVC letter sounds. Please encourage your children to sound out the letters then blend the words together to read simple CVC words. I have sent home the wordtime guidance which provides support in the activities for you. The remaining children have initial sounds to practise. These have simple CVC words with the 1st letter missing. Please practise this skill for your children to identify the sound that is missing/ sound that each word starts with.
Topic:
1. Floating/sinking activity - Last week in class we carried out a floating and sinking task to identify different materials which float and sink (we used a kitchen roll holder, plastic tub, egg carton, food container and water bottle). The children can try and find other items around the house or carry out this in the bath to find more items that sink/float. They can draw a picture or take a picture of the different items they experiment with.
ICT Games:
Over the past few weeks the children have been accessing educational games on our iPad station. They have used ICT games website and played phoneme pop to practise their letter sounds, and Topmarks under the sea counting to help them coint 1-to-1 objects.

There are also lots of lovely home learning websites that are offering free activities for the children to participate in, including Ruth Miskin who us offering the phonics lessons that we follow in school.
