Home Learning - Week 2

I hope you enjoyed the activities from last week, have been good at home for your families!
This week we will be learning about Easter.

Easter
Here are 2 links for Easter stories, 1 is a video form to watch, and the other is a story that adults or older siblings can read to the children about Easter.

Watch story

Talk to your child/children about the story, asking and answering questions. Oracy is an important skill in Nursery, and we have been practising listening and talking about books and stories we read in class. Encourage the children to recall some basic information from the story. E.G. What did Jesus ride on? Where did Jesus go? etc.

Sounds.
Ruth Miskin is continuing with the Youtube sounds sessions this week. Nursery will need to practise set 1 sounds at 9:30am, if you wish to join in with her sessions at home. Please continue with learning the letter sounds, provided in your home learning packs, with your children.

If in school this week, we would have been making an Easter card. This is is the card we were going to make in Nursery, using their hand print and allowing the children to decorate the egg shells using their own patterns and ideas, but please feel free to have a look online and research some other ideas if you prefer. Your child/children can choose which card they would like to make. Encourage them to make choices, and decide how they would like to decorate it.




On the inside, the children can overwrite like they did in their Mother's Day cards. If you have a light colour felt pen, an adult can write the message and the children can overwrite it in pencil. They are used to overwriting in class, so they should know how to do it. Some children are able to write their own names, or copy their name from a model so these children could copy and write independently inside their card, instead of over writing.

Maths
Who doesn't love an Easter egg hunt?! Help your child to make a basket template and some eggs using the links below, and hide them around the house/garden for the children to find. Encourage the children to count the total number of eggs that they have collected.

Welsh
Many parents have mentioned to me over the past week that their child is singing Welsh songs around the house, which is fantastic to hear! We sing a lot in Nursery, as this is an important skill for Nursery's language development. It also helps them to learn new vocabulary, especially in Welsh, in a fun way. Here are some songs and activities to encourage Welsh at home, and keep their Welsh language developing.
Every morning, Helpwr Heddiw asks "Sut mae'r tywydd heddiw?" and the children have a look and answer "Mae hi'n ____"
We then sing a song about the Weather. Click here for the words to join in with your children.




The children have also been asking and answering "Sut wyt ti?" (How are you)

Encourage your children to ask the people in your house "Sut wyt ti?" each day.

The children can make a face for each of the different feelings, and every day they ask the question, they can give the person answering the face to match. E.G. Child A asks his brother "Sut wyt ti?" His brother replies "Dw i'n wedi blino" so Child A gives the tired face that he has already made to his brother. 

Or use the table above and encourage the children to point to the correct feeling. E.g "Pw sy'n hapus?" (Who is happy?) and the child needs to point to the face that is hapus (happy). 

Keeping active

I am sure lots of you have been busy working out with Joe Wicks in the mornings, if you miss this time the videos are available on Youtube for you to complete at a time throughout the day which suits you best. If the children are looking for other forms of fitness, I introduced them to GoNoodle website this half term, where they participated in some dancing and active exercises to keep us moving and fit, whilst having fun. There's some routines for the adults to get moving and have a boogie too!

Topic

As it is the last week of term, we did not have chance to complete our STEM project. Our end project for this term was to create a paper mache sea creature. We researched and learned all about the sea creatures during the topic, so we know lots of different ones. As circumstances are now different, the children can create any sea creature of their choice, using any materials/resources that they have within your houses. When Hwb accounts are up and running, you will be able to upload a photo of your creative work to share with us all. 

As already mentioned in a text message last week, Hwb accounts are being created for your children to use. When these account have been made, I will email you with your child's username and password for you to gain access to the Hwb website with your children. There are lots of lovely resources on there, and there will be allocated files for you to share your children's work at home with me, where I can give reward stars to your children, and post some comments on the activities that they have completed. I will write another blog post detailing this when the accounts have been made.
