Nursery

Bore da,

Only two more weeks to go! Thank you once again for all your fantastic photos. You have been all working extremely hard over the last few weeks.

Suggested activities

Topic

We have all been very grateful to all the people that have helped even more us over the last few months. Some of you have created beautiful pictures showing this appreciation for the NHS in particular. Who else has been helping us? How many key workers have helped you, do you think? Can you name any? Maybe you could have a family game of charades, where you do the actions of a keyworker and everybody else guess who you are. Or maybe a  matching game.

Supertato is a super hero, but not all superheroes wear capes. I think that some people are real life superheroes that help us all year round, especially during this lockdown. Can you create a picture of a keyworker that has helped you during or even before lockdown? Can you give them a cape so they become a superhero like Supertato?

I know you have worked very hard at home and you have not seen your friends or teachers for a very long time. That I believe makes you superheroes as you have been through such a big change. For our final product for this term I would like you to create your very own cape or mask or even both. You can be as creative as you like.

This week we will look at our senses. Do you know what your senses are? Here is a video clip that explains all about your senses.

Can you go on a Sensory Hunt? This can be done inside and outside.

You can have lots of fun exploring your senses. Maybe you could create a feely box so you can guess what is inside. It could be objects  or even some kind of food, for example a marshmallow or a kiwi fruit. Can you describe how it feels  before you guess what it is? All the family can join in this.

Using a blindfold can be great fun too. Have you ever tried drawing or painting without using your eyes? How would that feel? Can someone guess what you have painted or drawn?

Or you can do a blindfolded taste or smelling game. Describe what it taste or smells likes, is it hard or soft? Is it warm or cold?

Sounds and Letters

Here are two more ideas to help you have fun while you practice your letters and sounds (use letters and sounds instead of words as suggested in the titles).

Here is a Dough Disco for you try:

Here is another story from the Bible that you may enjoy.

Maths

We have looked at 2D shapes, so now we will find out about 3D shapes.

Can you find any of these shapes inside your house or in the garden?
I would like you to try and build something with 3D objects, for example a tower or garage.
You can use your building toys or objects from around your house.

When you go for a walk can you find any of these shapes?

Welsh

I have uploaded a welsh story which includes colours so you can recap on these. It is in the class file on J2Easy.

The children can also have a sing along to the Days of the Week in welsh too.

Staying Active

Here are some more games you can play together that encourage the use of gross motor skills.

Imitating Animals

While on their hands and knees, toddlers move, stretch, and play like animals. They can hop like a frog or waddle like a penguin. They can arch their backs, roll on their backs, reach as high as they can, and walk on all fours. Choose a variety of animals and movements to keep children engaged and using their whole bodies to stay active.

Traffic safety

Cut three circles from coloured paper –– one red, one yellow and one green. Label the red circle “Stop,” the yellow circle “Slow” and the green circle “Go.”  You can hold the  traffic lights and swap them at intervals. Your child then moves forward when “Go” is held up, slow down when “Slow” is held up and freeze when “Stop” is held up. Take advantage of this fun activity to also teach children about traffic safety.
Follow the Leader
Stand in front of your child and tell them to watch you carefully and copy your moves. Touch your nose, hop on both feet, stomp in a circle, or crawl on all fours. Choose simple actions and use large motor activities. Your child can have a go at being the leader too.
Jump over the River
If outdoors, you can use chalk to draw two parallel lines about a foot apart to create a river. Tell your child to 'Jump over the River' by bending at the knees, extending their arms behind their backs, and swinging their arms forward when they take off and land on their feet on the other side. If indoors, use tape to create your river instead.
Daily Mindful Challenge
Here is this weeks breathing exercise, I hope you enjoy.

Finally for this week can you try this:

Have a great week & Take care
