Week 2

Dear parents,

I hope you all had a great weekend despite the miserable weather. The children appear to be more settled and any tears usually stop very quickly, nothing a cuddle can’t solve! The children are also mixing well and enjoying getting to know one another. This week we have started the Foundation Phase Compact Profile Assessments.  This provides us with a baseline assessment for their Primary Education. You have nothing to worry about or anything to do to prepare for this. It's observational and task led and the teachers will compete all the assessments.

Home Learning Tasks

Throughout the year we will ask you to carry out home learning tasks at home. This is usually a craft that is linked to the topic we are doing or a skill that we would like to be practised at home. Your first home learning task is to create an ‘All About Me’ poster that we can display in the classroom all year round. This will give the children the opportunity to discuss with us a little more about themselves. As the posters will be on display, it will also provide the children with a sense of ownership and belonging in their classroom.

• The poster can include information such as:
• ·      Likes and dislikes
• ·      Photographs of themselves or any family members
• ·      Favourite foods, colours, animals, hobbies
• ·      Any pets they may have
• ·      What they enjoy doing most

This is just an example of things you could include, you can be as creative as you like. That’s all we ask is that the children are fully involved with creating the posters!

The children that were with us last year have already completed the ‘All About Me’ posters so this time we ask that they complete a ‘Super Star Class Rules’ poster! As the children have already been with us for several months they are already familiar with the class rules and the routines in school. The poster can include information such as:

• ·      How to be a kind friend
• ·      How to sit on the carpet
• ·      What to do at snack and dinner times
• ·      How to wash hands
• ·      How to look after the class areas and toys
• 
  
•     Again you could include pictures and please be as creative as you like, however it vital the children lead the task and the rules are positive ones that they come up with.

You can send the posters into school as soon as they are complete, however we ask that they are in by Monday 24^th September.
