Week 7 & 8

Dear Parents,

All parents evening forms went home yesterday, a big thank you to those who retuned them today. If you are yet to return yours, please do ASAP so I can give you a time slot.

The homework looks fantastic in the reading corner. I am glad to see and hear that the children have been involved in making them. A big thank you for all the time and effort put in.

All children are now settled and I have finished all of the Foundation Phase Assessments, which means we can get stuck in with our topic! Up until half term we will be celebrating and learning all about Harvest as well as continuing with seasonal activities.  We will be joining the rest of the school in celebrating the Harvest festival next week, please keep an eye on the main blog for more information on food donations.

The story of the week is ‘The Little Red Hen’.

Activities include:

Creative Development: Follow instructions to create a hedgehog using leaves.

Creative Development: Create a Harvest crown to wear to the Harvest Festival.

Mathematical Development:

1.    Sort fruits and vegetables into groups

2.   Pattern- Repeating and copying patterns using autumn leaves

3.   Number chants and songs

Language and Literacy: Oracy- Children to use describing words to feel, smell and taste a range of different vegetables.

Knowledge and Understanding Development: Baking- The Little Red Hen is poorly! Can the children cheer her up by baking some hedgehog bread?

Forest School: How many different colour autumn leaves can the children find? Can they sort them by colours?

We will also be learning some Harvest songs that we will sing with the rest of the school during the Festival. I will post some links below so you can sing along with your child and help them learn the words.

 Last but certainly not least… I have been discussing with the children the difficult jobs farmers have in keeping crops safe. As a home learning task, can you and your child make a miniature scarecrow together? Whilst preparing and making the scarecrow, please encourage discussions linked to Harvest and the importance of scarecrows! Your scarecrows must be small enough to display in our classroom so please keep this in mind when you are making him/her, a nametag would also be great! Please can all Scarecrows be in school by Thursday 26^th October.
