Chinese New Year!

In the lead up to half term, we will be celebrating Chinese New Year. Activities for the next fortnight include:

Literacy and Language

·Re-tell the Chinese New Year zodiac story using a story road

RWI sound sessions

Mathematics

·   To create a 2 or 3 sequenced pattern

· Problem solving

Knowledge and Understanding

·   Cooking- To make coconut balls

Cook and taste a Chinese stir-fry

Creative

·      To recreate a sheep, using the most appropriate materials

Welsh

·     Become familiar with the Welsh words for animals that took part in the race

Writing Workshop

1.    To overwrite ‘I was born in the year of the _____’

2.    Number formation

3.  Create dragon swirls and writing patterns

Forest School

•   A Chinese tradition is to throw an orange up a tree with a wish attached. It is believed that if the orange stays in the tree the wish will come true! We will be throwing our oranges/ during forest school!

P.E

Practice a dragon dance to preform in the Chinese New Year party

The Chinese New Year party will be on Friday 13^th February at 2.00pm. The children may wear party clothes or traditional Chinese costumes. Parents and grandparents are welcome to join. We will also be preforming a dragon dance. I will be sending home red tags tomorrow. Please can you help your child write a wish on the tag and send it back to school by Friday 6^th. Thank you!

We have organised a trip for the children to visit a Chinese restaurant in the Red Dragon Centre on Wednesday 11^th February.  A letter with further information will be sent out tomorrow.
