Welcome!

Dear Parents

A very big welcome to all of you, especially those of you who are new to Penygawsi. The purpose of this letter is to give you some information about things that will be helpful to you at the beginning of this new and very important year.

Staff working in the Nursery this year are myself, Mrs Terrans – Nursery Nurse, Mrs Bull and Miss Key – classroom assistants. My PPA time this year will usually be a Thursday morning, this means that I am likely to be out of the class planning activities or resources.

P.E. is on a Wednesday so please can you ensure that kits are in school. Please include trainers as we will sometimes be using outdoors.

We will provide the children with milk and toast mid-morning and a drink and a snack in the afternoon. The cost of this is £1 a week, per child. We do ask that you pay this on a half termly basis. This half term will be £7. Please send the money in an envelope with your child’s name written on the front.

We will be taking the children outside in all weather as the outdoor environment plays a large part in our learning. Therefore, we ask that each child brings in a pair of wellies with their names on that can be left in school. Please also provide your child with waterproofs rather than fleeces on days that are likely to turn wet.

Please ensure you put your child’s name on everything they bring into school. You will be surprised what can go missing!

Our theme for this term is ‘Up, up and away’. We will be looking at how we have grown up, hot air balloons, aeroplanes and much more.

Each child has been given a paper plate that they need to decorate to look like themselves. When finished please return it to school with their name on the back of it – just in case we don’t recognise them! We will then use these so that we know who our helpers are for the day.

The children were a credit to you all on Monday morning. Those that were familiar to the school helped and played with those that started on Monday morning and the new ones joined in with activities all morning. Everything went very smoothly.

The school has a blog on the internet that is regularly updated with information. The home page is written by Mr Davies. To access class or PTA information follow the appropriate link. The address is www.penygawsipri.blogspot.com

The staff of Class 1 are really looking forward to working with you and your child this year and the children’s happiness is our primary concern. We will do everything we can to ensure that all of the children are happy and enjoy coming to school. If at any point you have any concerns, however small, please come and see me.

Many thanks for your support

Mrs S. Francis – class teacher
